Juvenile gang and the billion-dollar heist.
(Baonghean.vn) -In broad daylight, a gang of young people climbed over a fence into a house, carrying tools, broke open a safe, and stole 50 gold bars, along with US dollars and cash, totaling 2.2 billion VND, before fleeing.
The Vinh City Police have just arrested Nguyen Minh Hai (born in 1997), residing in Hong Son ward, for investigation into the theft of property. Hai was apprehended while fleeing in the mountainous district of Que Phong after the theft ring he led was exposed.
Despite his young age, Nguyen Minh Hai had already assembled a gang of accomplices including: Phan Xuan Nam (born in 1999), residing in Ba Ha Hamlet, Nam Dan Town, Nam Dan District; Lu Van Sang (born in 1999), residing in Mau Duc Commune, Con Cuong District; and Nguyen Cao Cuong (born in 1995), originally from Lam Son Commune, Luong Son District, Hoa Binh Province, currently residing in Hong Son Ward, Vinh City. The group's main occupation was frequenting secluded areas, taking advantage of people's carelessness to carry out audacious thefts.
Whenever they committed a robbery, this gang usually consisted of 3-4 members; one would stand outside to keep watch, while the others would break into houses to break open cabinets and safes and steal money. The two younger members, Lu Van Sang and Phan Xuan Nam, were usually assigned the most burglaries, while Nguyen Cao Cuong was responsible for selling the stolen property...

The suspects are Nguyen Minh Hai, Lu Van Sang, and Phan Xuan Nam.

Investigators determined that on the afternoon of June 25, 2013, Nguyen Minh Hai and Phan Xuan Nam rode a motorcycle without license plates around Hung Dung ward looking for houses with lax security. While on Dinh Le street, they spotted a house that appeared wealthy but was unoccupied. After hiding their motorcycle outside, the two climbed over the fence, carrying a saw, chisel, and hammer to break open a cabinet, stealing a large amount of money, gold, and US dollars from the homeowner before quickly escaping.
According to the homeowner's report to the police, the thieves stole 60 million VND, 4,000 USD, and 50 gold bars, with a total loss of 2.2 billion VND.
Immediately after the incident occurred, the Vinh City Police established a special investigation case coded 613.T, headed by Colonel Nguyen Viet Hoa, head of the Criminal Investigation Department for Social Order of the Provincial Police, with Lieutenant Colonel Mai Chien Thang, deputy head of Vinh City Police, as deputy head, along with other investigators, to investigate and clarify the matter.
Following the classification of suspected individuals and gangs, on July 2, 2013, the task force of the Special Investigation Unit discovered Phan Xuan Nam appearing in the BigC supermarket area, carrying several suspicious items. After being arrested, Nam was uncooperative and refused to confess to his actions. It took two days of persistent questioning, employing professional investigative techniques and compelling evidence, before the task force finally persuaded Nam to identify his gang. Immediately, Lu Van Sang and Nguyen Cao Cuong were arrested.
Seeing that Nam had been arrested and realizing his theft gang had been exposed, Nguyen Minh Hai fled Vinh City and went to Que Phong district to hide.
On the afternoon of July 8th, Lieutenant Colonel Mai Chien Thang, Deputy Head of the Special Investigation Team, stated that the group of suspects is currently being held in custody pending damage assessment before prosecution. According to initial findings, prior to this multi-billion VND theft, the group had committed six other burglaries in Vinh City.
