(Baonghean) -Since 2008, Nghe An province has closely coordinated with 3 provinces of Laos that share a border with Nghe An, including Bolikhamxay, Xieng Khouang and Hua Phan, to survey and complete the construction of 116/116 border markers and 6 marker posts. This activity has actively contributed to the provinces that share a border with Laos in completing the increase and renovation of border markers, contributing to strengthening the solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

Of the 2,067km border between Laos and 10 provinces of our country, Nghe An is the locality with the longest border with 419.5km and rugged terrain. In particular, there are many locations to determine new landmarks, high mountainous terrain, dense forests, no roads, harsh weather, rainy season often causes flooding, isolation in many places.

Overcoming these difficulties, the Steering Committee for Border Marker Planting of Nghe An province has closely coordinated with the Lao provinces of Bolikhamxay, Xieng Khouang and Hua Phan to complete the work of increasing the thickness and embellishing the border markers between Vietnam and Laos. Over the past 5 years, the Steering Committee for Border Marker Planting and the departments, branches, sectors and functional forces of the province have closely coordinated with the neighboring provinces, organized surveys and built 116/116 border markers and 6 additional marker posts.

During the implementation process, the Steering Committee for Vietnam - Laos border marker planting in Nghe An province and the working teams received close guidance from the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and relevant ministries and branches. The Provincial Steering Committee for Border Marker Planting and its members, including representatives of relevant departments, branches, units, and representatives of leaders of districts bordering Laos, actively handled outstanding issues regarding documents and procedures for making advance payments and final payments related to the border marker project in accordance with regulations on financial principles.

The direction work is given due and timely attention. Every month, the Provincial Marker Planting Steering Committee holds meetings to urge work, direct, resolve difficulties, problems or issues arising in the process of performing tasks. Every year, the Provincial Marker Planting Steering Committee of Nghe An holds meetings with the Marker Planting Steering Committees of provinces in Laos to agree on action programs for each period and time.

Along with that, every month, the standing agency, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the two border marker planting teams of the province regularly exchange with the agencies and border marker planting forces of neighboring provinces to coordinate and effectively implement the work on the field. This activity not only serves the border marker planting work but also contributes to tightening the special friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos and serves the goal of economic development of the provinces on the basis of mutual benefit.

To celebrate the completion of the work of increasing and renovating border markers between the two countries, on July 9, the Vietnamese Government and the Lao Government will hold a welcoming ceremony at Thanh Thuy Border Gate (Thanh Chuong District, Nghe An Province) and Nam On (Xay Cham Phon District, Bolikhamxay Province).
