The 1st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion receives the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.

(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of July 18th, Military Region 4 held a ceremony to receive the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces during the anti-American war period for the 1st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion. Attending the ceremony were Lieutenant General Nguyen Huu Cuong – Commander of Military Region 4; Major General Vo Van Viet – Political Commissar of Military Region 4, along with representatives from various agencies, units, and the Liaison Committee of the 1st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion of Military Region 4.

In December 1964, the 14th Battalion, belonging to the 312th Division, was transferred by the Ministry of National Defense to Military Region 4 and renamed the 1st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion of Military Region 4. In March 1968, the 1st Battalion was again deployed by the Ministry of National Defense to fight in the Southern battlefields. For nearly 10 years of independent combat in the fierce battlefields of Military Region 4 and the Truong Son battlefield, the officers and soldiers of the 1st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion destroyed 83 aircraft of various types belonging to the US imperialists, including B-52s, and killed or captured many pilots, casualties, and seized enemy weapons.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Huu Cuong presented the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to the Liaison Committee of the 1st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion - Military Region 4.

After the liberation of South Vietnam, in accordance with the demands of the revolution and the Army, the unit was disbanded. For its achievements in the resistance war against the US, on April 25, 2013, the President of Vietnam signed a decision awarding the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces in the resistance war against the US to the 1st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, Military Region 4.

Authorized by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Lieutenant General Nguyen Huu Cuong awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to the Liaison Committee of the 1st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, Military Region 4.

On this occasion, Lieutenant General Nguyen Huu Cuong also presented Certificates of Commendation from the Ministry of National Defense to 3 collectives and 2 individuals for their achievements in implementing Directive 17-CT/TW of the Central Party Secretariat (11th term) and organizing activities commemorating the 40th anniversary of the "Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu in the Air" Victory (December 1972 - December 2012).
