On the afternoon of September 16, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera who is visiting and working in Vietnam.

Appreciating the results of the talks between Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh and Minister Itsunori Onodera, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung emphasized that the results achieved in the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership in recent times have brought practical benefits to the common development of both countries. The Prime Minister said that the visit will be a positive contribution to promoting the multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Japan.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that Vietnam's consistent policy is to especially attach importance to the strategic partnership with Japan for peace and prosperity in the Asian region; he hopes that the two sides will continue to cooperate closely and support each other at international and regional forums, especially at the United Nations.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung hopes that the two countries' Defense Ministries will further promote cooperation activities, regularly hold dialogues, exchange delegations, and visit each other to enhance friendship and mutual understanding between the two countries' armies.

At the same time, he proposed that Japan strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in training officials, especially in Japanese and English; support and cooperate with Vietnam in modernizing equipment of the coast guard force; support Vietnam in participating in international peacekeeping forces...

Minister Itsunori Onodera informed about some of the main results that the two sides achieved during the talks with Vietnamese Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh, according to which the two sides reached high consensus in cooperation areas such as: Human resource training, mine clearance, modernization of equipment for the coast guard force, military technical cooperation...

Minister Itsunori Onodera hopes that the Vietnamese Government will always support cooperation activities between the two countries' Defense Ministries, making defense cooperation between Vietnam and Japan increasingly deeper, more practical and effective./.
