According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the import value of some key agricultural products in the first 10 months of 2013 is estimated at nearly 15.25 billion USD, up 10.4% over the same period in 2012. Among them, some key product lines have large import values, about more than 12 billion USD, up 12.4% over the same period last year.

Leading the group of industries with large import volumes are animal feed and raw materials. The import volume of animal feed and raw materials in October reached 357 million USD, bringing the total import turnover in the first 10 months of the year to 2.73 billion USD, up 38.5% over the same period last year.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development assessed: Imports of this group of products have increased sharply in recent years due to the increased demand of the domestic livestock industry. The main import markets for this group of products are Argentina (accounting for more than 30% of the market share), India (accounting for more than 11% of the market share) and the US (over 12% of the market share).

Ranking second in import is the fertilizer industry, reaching 158 million USD, bringing the total import turnover in the first 10 months of 2013 to 1.42 billion USD, an increase of 1.5% in value compared to the same period last year.

Some industries also tend to reduce import volume such as wheat, seafood and rubber. Specifically, seafood imports decreased by 4.9% in value, rubber also decreased by 16.6% in value compared to the same period last year and wheat import volume decreased by nearly 32% and more than 23% in value compared to the same period in 2012.

Cashew nuts alone had an estimated import volume of 83 thousand tons in October with a value of 73 million USD, bringing the total import turnover in the first 10 months of 2013 to 579 thousand tons with a value of 539 million USD, an increase of 98.4% in volume and 84.6% in value compared to the same period in 2012./.
