Latest information about the 2014 National High School Gifted Student Exam

The 2014 National High School Student Excellence Exam was held on January 3, 4 and 5, 2014.

Note on assigning exam invigilators

The Ministry of Education and Training said that this exam will continue to organize the speaking test at the monologue level for candidates in Foreign Language subjects and the practical test for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology subjects.

Note that the person assigned to supervise the IT exam, the practical exam of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and the Foreign Language exam must be a teacher who is teaching that subject at the high school level. In addition, the teacher assigned to supervise the practical exam of Physics, Chemistry and Biology must be proficient in using the experimental equipment for the subject; the teacher assigned to supervise the Foreign Language exam must be proficient in using the CD player and computer.

Units need to thoroughly inform students taking the Math exam of the list of concepts and results that Math candidates are allowed to use as concepts and results of textbooks in the National Excellent Student Exam, as stipulated in Official Dispatches No. 11636/THPT dated December 25, 2000 and 1403/THPT dated February 25, 2002 of the Ministry of Education and Training.

For candidates in the IT subject, the Ministry of Education and Training notes that all information (including the number of sheets used to print the test) must be clearly written in the blank space on the first sheet used to print the test; for the following sheets, only the exam registration number must be written. In addition to the information mentioned above, do not write any other marks on the printed test paper. Write the registration number, exam date and sign on the CD containing the test file.

Speaking test for foreign languages

Candidates are not allowed to mention personal information in their answers and are not allowed to make any noises to mark their test.

Each candidate has 10 minutes to complete the speaking test; 5 minutes for preparation, and the next 5 minutes for answering and recording. Candidates are only allowed to bring pens into the exam room.

After entering the exam room, candidates receive scratch paper from the exam invigilator, use the username and password provided by the exam invigilator to log in to the exam page;

After successfully logging into the exam page, candidates can choose the exam questions by left-clicking on the "Pick questions" box displayed on the computer screen;

After receiving the exam code, the candidate must immediately peel off the exam paper and left-click on the "Take Exam" box displayed on the computer screen. When the exam window appears, the candidate must immediately prepare the answers to the questions in the exam paper;

Next, the candidate begins to answer when the system announces the start of recording. The system will automatically stop recording when the allowed time for answering is over, the computer screen will display the words "Recording successful", the candidate left-clicks on the "Listen again" box to listen to his/her answer again, then left-clicks on the "Download" box to save the audio file on the computer.

Next, the candidate left-clicks on the "Send to Server" box. In case the network is lost while submitting the paper, or there is an error that prevents the file from being sent to the Server, the candidate just left-clicks on the "Send to Server" box.

After finishing, the machine will notify "Submit successfully". To complete the test, the candidate left-clicks on the "Submit" box. Then left-click on the "Exit" box on the top right of the computer screen to exit his/her test account;

Note, when the system starts recording, candidates must read the exam code and the content of the questions in the exam before starting to answer in the exam language; otherwise, the candidate's answer will be considered a violation. Speak loudly and clearly when recording the exam.

Practical exam in Physics, Chemistry, Biology

Note, during the exam, if a candidate violates the rules of the practical exam room, the invigilator will ask that candidate to stop taking the exam and leave the exam room.

According to the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training, the scope and content of the Physics exam are Mechanics, Electricity, Optics; Chemistry: Quantitative Analysis; Biology: Adaptive Ecology in Plants; Biochemistry and Cytology; Plant Physiology and Microbiology. Exam time is 90 minutes.

Each practical exam room has 3 invigilators; including 2 invigilators in the exam room with expertise in the practical exam subject from two other exam units and 1 equipment invigilator from the local exam unit outside the exam room.

Before the exam day, candidates are informed of the practical exam procedures and regulations, especially the safety regulations that are announced as mandatory for all candidates.

30 minutes before the exam, candidates taking the practical exams in Physics, Chemistry and Biology gather in the waiting room supervised by an invigilator.

After entering the examination room, candidates draw lots for their exam positions and receive scratch paper from the invigilator in the examination room. When the exam papers are available, candidates take the exam and write the results on the answer sheet.

Before and during the exam, if the candidate discovers that a device is not working due to technical failure, he/she must immediately notify the supervisor on duty for replacement. 10 minutes before the exam is collected, the candidate must sign the practical skills assessment form with confirmation from both supervisors in the exam room.
