The South Korean Unification Ministry said a six-member technical team arrived at the demilitarized zone on the border between the two countries early on December 5 to discuss with a group of North Korean technicians to set a time to start building the radio frequency identification (RFID) system.

The two sides will discuss the necessary materials and the appropriate time for the construction of this system. Work will officially begin next week so that the identification system can be put into operation in early January 2014.

Earlier, on October 29, the two sides agreed to start building a radio identification system as soon as possible. The construction of such an identification system in the demilitarized zone between South Korea and the DPRK is considered an important first step to increase the international competitiveness of the Kaesong joint industrial complex.

When completed, the system will facilitate people's travel in Keasong.
