Eating at night doesn't make you fat. In fact, new research suggests there may be potential benefits to muscle and metabolism from eating at night.

1. Muscle development

In a study published last year in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, Dutch scientists found that consuming casein (a protein found in milk) after evening exercise, 30 minutes before bed, increased protein synthesis in men.

2. Metabolism is faster

A study from Florida State University found that if healthy men ate a 150-calorie nighttime snack that included protein and carbohydrates, they had a faster morning metabolism than if they ate nothing before bed.

3. Less feeling hungry

According to research from Florida State University, a bedtime snack can curb your hunger in the morning and improve your feeling of fullness between meals the next day. It doesn’t matter what you eat, the protein is important because it helps you build muscle.

4. Weight loss

In a Wayne State University study, people who ate cereal before bed lost about 2 pounds in four weeks, while those who didn't eat cereal at night lost just over 2 pounds.
