EU businesses have invested over 18 billion USD in Vietnam
On November 12, more than 100 EU and Vietnamese businesses exchanged information on cooperation, investment and business.
After more than 20 years of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the EU, bilateral relations have developed rapidly and extensively. To date, 20/27 EU countries have invested in Vietnam with 1,435 projects, totaling over 18 billion USD.
Currently, the EU has become one of Vietnam's leading trade partners with two-way trade increasing by an average of 15-20% per year. Two-way trade has increased sharply from 1.5 billion USD in 1995 to over 29 billion USD in 2012, reaching over 24.8 billion USD in the first 9 months of this year, an increase of more than 2.6% compared to 2012.
Since the beginning of the year, the EU has been Vietnam's largest export market with over 17.8 billion USD, mainly in the following industries: leather shoes, textiles, coffee, wooden furniture and seafood.
Regarding investment cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and EU enterprises, Mr. Vo Tan Thanh, Deputy Secretary General of VCCI, Director of VCCI in Ho Chi Minh City said: “Through this exchange, cooperation opportunities will be opened for Vietnamese and EU enterprises. The potential of both sides is still great, especially in terms of export. Vietnam's export products to these markets must pay attention to quality and delivery time, because the EU is a demanding market. Products must ensure environmental requirements: clean, green and socially responsible.
