From January 6, 2014: Mobile weighing stations to crack down on overloaded vehicles in 53 provinces.

The Vietnam Road Administration (Ministry of Transport) will hand over 53 mobile weighing scales to localities on January 6th to strengthen efforts to crack down on overloaded vehicles on national highways nationwide.

Accordingly, 53 local Departments of Transport are equipped with mobile weighing scales. These are the remaining provinces and cities that were not initially supplied by the Ministry of Transport on September 25, 2013, which included 10 localities: Ha Nam, Thanh Hoa, Quang Binh, Binh Dinh, Can Tho, Lam Dong, Hai Phong, Yen Bai, Nam Dinh, and Bac Kan, in order to control oversized and overloaded vehicles on roads.

An assessment by the inter-ministerial committee of the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Public Security indicates that overloaded vehicles circulating on roads are a very complex issue and are on the rise, causing severe damage to many vital national highways, hindering repair efforts, resulting in significant financial losses, and, more importantly, reducing the lifespan of the infrastructure.

To address this issue, the Vietnam Road Administration stated that provinces and cities have effectively organized vehicle weight control and have issued requests for the early provision of mobile weighing stations, as national highways running through these localities are also priority routes for focused vehicle weight control.

According to representatives of the authorities, after the first mobile weighing stations were handed over to the provinces and cities, the number of overloaded vehicles damaging roads and causing accidents has decreased significantly.

It is understood that, in implementing the 2014 plan, the Ministry of Transport focused on directing and decisively implementing solutions to ensure traffic safety and order under the theme "Tightening management of transport activities and controlling vehicle load limits."

Vehicle load control activities will be implemented simultaneously in all localities and on all traffic routes, focusing on heavy trucks, container trucks, and construction material transport vehicles; violations of overloading regulations will be strictly dealt with according to the law.
