The structure was found during excavations near the southern city of Kiryat Gat.
The base of the church is about 25m long and 15m wide, decorated with stone mosaics and engraved with Greek characters, believed to be the names of those who contributed to the church's construction.
In addition, next to this church, archaeologists also discovered a pottery workshop, including many types of jars, cooking pots, bowls and oil lamps typical of ancient Rome.
The church is believed to have been located in a densely populated area of ancient Romans and was likely a centre of communal religious activity.
Dr. Daniel Varga, Director of the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), said the pieces will be removed and displayed at a local museum and the church will be restored for tourists to visit./.
