The organizing committee of the second conference invited 357 doctors and postgraduates from many countries in Asia, Europe, America and Oceania, including 69 people from universities and institutes in Singapore and 13 people from other member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Professor Low Teck Seng, Executive Officer of NRF and Co-Chairman of the GYSS Organizing Committee, expressed his joy at seeing more and more young Vietnamese scientists participating in major international forums such as GYSS.
This year's conference will discuss the latest scientific and technological achievements and discuss solutions to global challenges. Discussions will cover basic science fields such as chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, information technology and engineering.
According to Professor Low, the GYSS conference aims to build a strong global research network and attract more talented researchers to Singapore. “Singapore is building itself into a science and technology hub, and as a hub, it will be able to attract talent,” he said.
Professor Low also said that compared to the first conference in 2013, this year's conference was larger, with 357 PhDs and postgraduates attending and meeting with 18 world-famous scientific leaders, while the first conference had only 285 attendees and 15 scientific leaders.
A series of talks between the world's leading scientists and members of universities, research-education institutes, government agencies and the public in Singapore will be held for the first time in the Lion City as part of this year's summit.
There is also a competition for young scientists called the Singapore Challenge. This competition aims to recognize the creative and unique ideas of young scientists participating in GYSS in solving challenges for the development of future cities.
