Neuer has dethroned Casillas as the best goalkeeper in the world.

According to the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS), Manuel Neuer has surpassed a host of other strong contenders to become the best goalkeeper in the world in 2013.

This achievement helped the German goalkeeper break Iker Casillas's dominance of this award from 2008-2012.

This is a well-deserved reward for Manuel Neuer after what he has shown in an incredibly successful year for the German national team and Bayern Munich.

Neuer helped Germany secure an early qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and helped Bayern Munich achieve a historic "quintuple" of trophies: the Bundesliga, the German Cup, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

In the recent poll, Neuer received 211 points from journalists and experts from 70 countries around the world, 133 points more than the second-placed goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus.

The next positions were occupied by Petr Cech (Chelsea), Thibaut Courtois (Chelsea player currently playing for Atletico Madrid), Victor Valdes (Barca), and Iker Casillas (Real Madrid).
