Speaking at the New Year gathering, Consul General Nguyen Thi Nha reviewed some key features of Vietnam's political-economic-social situation in 2013, especially the implementation of major policies and decisions of the 7th and 8th Central Conferences.
Thanks to the joint efforts of the entire Party, people and army, the country continues to maintain political stability, the economy shows signs of recovery, inflation is controlled at the lowest level in the past 10 years, export turnover reaches more than 132 billion USD and is the highest level ever...
Regarding foreign affairs, in 2013, Vietnam was elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the first time with the highest number of votes among the candidates. Vietnam has also proactively and actively participated in many important regional and global mechanisms, established strategic partnerships and comprehensive partnerships with many countries, contributing to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment and enhancing its position in the international arena.
On this occasion, Consul General Nguyen Thi Nha also reviewed the outstanding events in the activities of the Consulate General in 2013, with special attention to citizen protection work.
The Consul General said that in 2013, in addition to regularly sending staff to meet with people to grasp the situation, feelings, and help resolve many difficulties for people, the Consulate General welcomed and supported 9 fishermen from Ba Ria-Vung Tau province who were in distress at sea to return to Vietnam safely and quickly.
The Consul General expressed his hope that Vietnamese people living and working in Hong Kong and Macau would continue to unite, promote the spirit of mutual love and contribute more to their homeland.
Speaking to a VNA reporter in Hong Kong, Ms. Dinh Thi Duyen, from Quang Ninh, said she has been in Hong Kong for 11 years, but has not had the opportunity to return to Vietnam to celebrate Tet.
Every time she receives an invitation from the Consulate General to attend the Community Tet, Ms. Duyen feels extremely happy because she has the opportunity to freely speak Vietnamese, gather and interact with fellow countrymen, and enjoy traditional ethnic dishes.
According to Ms. Duyen, at that time, she felt warm as if she had returned to her family, lessened her longing for her loved ones and had more motivation to strive in a foreign land.
In the warm atmosphere, overseas Vietnamese, students and officials of representative agencies in the area also listened to songs imbued with love for the homeland performed by officials, their wives, husbands and Vietnamese people living in the area./.
