Tourism industry targets to welcome 8 million international visitors in 2014
On January 8, the General Department of Tourism held a conference to summarize the work of 2013 and deploy the plan for 2014. At the conference, the General Department of Tourism set a target in 2014 to welcome 8 million international tourists (up 5.64% compared to 2013), serve 37.5 million domestic tourists (up 7.14% compared to 2013), and total revenue from tourists reached 230 trillion VND (up 15% compared to 2013).
According to the report of the General Department of Tourism: In 2013, the Vietnam tourism industry welcomed and served 7,572,352 international visitors, 35 million domestic visitors, total revenue from tourists reached 200 trillion VND with growth rates compared to 2012 of 10.6%, 7.7% and 25%.
Most tourist markets increased compared to the same period in 2012, specifically: the highest increase was the Russian tourist market with 71.1%; followed by China with an increase of 33.5%; Thailand with an increase of 19.3%; New Zealand with an increase of 16.3%; Indonesia with an increase of 15.7%; Belgium with an increase of 14.1%; and Malaysia with an increase of 13.5%.

Many localities achieved very impressive results such as: Hanoi welcomed 16,577,700 visitors, an increase of 15.15% compared to 2012, of which international visitors reached 2,580,900, total revenue from tourists reached 38,500 billion VND; Ho Chi Minh City in 2013 welcomed 4,109,000 international tourists, an increase of 8.1% compared to 2012, tourism revenue reached 81,970 billion VND, an increase of 15% compared to 2012...
In addition, many large-scale tourism events to promote the image and tourism were organized domestically and internationally, including: National Tourism Year of the Red River Delta - Hai Phong 2013 with the theme "Red River Civilization"; International Conference on Spiritual Tourism; Ha Long Carnival with the theme "Quang Ninh Colors - Convergence and Spread"; Da Nang International Fireworks Festival 2013; The 5th Quang Nam Heritage Journey Festival; participation in many international tourism fairs such as: Travex 2013 in Laos, MITT in Russia, ITB in Germany, International Tourism Fair in Guangzhou, China, CITM in Kunming, WTM in the UK, JATA in Japan...
