Commander of Military Region 4 checks combat readiness and wishes a happy new year to officers and soldiers of Con Co Island

(Baonghean.vn) - On the occasion of preparing to welcome the Spring of Giap Ngo 2014, on January 8, 2014, Lieutenant General Nguyen Huu Cuong, Commander of the Military Region, led a delegation of officers of the Military Region Command to Con Co Island, Quang Tri Province to inspect the combat readiness tasks and wish a happy new year to the soldiers and civilians working and living on the island district.

The Commander of the Military Region and the working group directly inspected the island defense plans, inspected the construction of island defense works; the accommodation of soldiers and listened to the Island leaders and commanders report on the preparation work to ensure the safety of soldiers and people during the 2014 Lunar New Year. Through the inspection, it was shown that Con Co islands have thoroughly grasped and educated officers and soldiers to have a good understanding of the task of training in defense, especially proactively building plans and practicing defense plans.

Although far from the mainland and severely damaged by storm No. 10 in 2013, the officers and soldiers on the islands have overcome difficulties, actively consolidated and built the landscape, built units, promoted production and livestock raising to improve the quality of life of the soldiers. With the support of the mainland, the islands have built plans and prepared a relatively sufficient amount of logistics materials and necessities to ensure service for the people and soldiers before, during and after the Lunar New Year of Giap Ngo.

Wishing the soldiers and civilians on duty and living on Con Co Island a Happy New Year, Lieutenant General Nguyen Huu Cuong, Commander of the Military Region, acknowledged and highly appreciated the achievements of the soldiers and civilians of Con Co Island District in 2013, especially the proactive overcoming of consequences caused by natural disasters and floods. The Commander of the Military Region requested that officers and soldiers of Con Co Island must always maintain a high level of vigilance, identifying that protecting the island is always a particularly important and top priority task. Therefore, it is necessary to always be ready for combat, organize training for 100% of officers and soldiers to skillfully use the equipped weapons, and focus on organizing live ammunition firing at all levels in 2014.

Regularly coordinate closely with forces to observe and grasp the situation of activities on the island and at sea, especially during important holidays and New Year of the nation and the country. Along with practicing combat plans, it is necessary to coordinate closely with the Party Committee, the government and forces on the island to grasp the situation, proactively and effectively handle situations when they arise. Units need to pay attention to organizing for soldiers to celebrate the New Year thoughtfully, safely and economically, always ready to fight to firmly protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands when the New Year comes.

On this occasion, the Military Region Commander also visited, presented gifts and wished a happy new year to the Party Committee, authorities and forces on duty on Con Co and Me islands.
