The Commander of Military Region 4 inspects combat readiness and extends New Year greetings to officers and soldiers on Con Co Island.
(Baonghean.vn) - On the occasion of preparing to welcome the Year of the Horse 2014, on January 8, 2014, Lieutenant General Nguyen Huu Cuong, Commander of the Military Region, led a delegation of officers from the Military Region Command to Con Co Island, Quang Tri province, to inspect combat readiness tasks and extend New Year greetings to the military and civilians working and living on the island district.
The Commander of the Military Region and the delegation directly inspected the combat readiness plans for island defense, checked the construction of island defense structures, the living quarters of the troops, and listened to reports from the island's leaders and commanders on preparations to ensure the well-being of the troops and people during the 2014 Lunar New Year. The inspection revealed that the Con Co islands had thoroughly educated their officers and soldiers on the importance of combat readiness training, especially in proactively developing plans and practicing combat readiness scenarios.
Despite being far from the mainland and suffering severe damage from Typhoon No. 10 in 2013, officers and soldiers on the islands have overcome difficulties, actively consolidating and improving the environmental landscape, building up their units, and promoting agricultural production and livestock farming to enhance the quality of life for the troops. With support from the mainland, the islands have developed plans and prepared relatively sufficient logistical supplies and necessities to ensure adequate provision for the people and soldiers before, during, and after the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Horse.

Extending New Year greetings to the military and civilians serving and living on Con Co Island, Lieutenant General Nguyen Huu Cuong, Commander of the Military Region, acknowledged and highly appreciated the achievements of the military and civilians of Con Co Island in 2013, especially their proactive efforts in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, storms, and floods. The Commander of the Military Region requested that officers and soldiers on Con Co Island always maintain a high level of vigilance, considering the protection of the island as a top priority. Therefore, they must always be ready for combat, organize training for 100% of officers and soldiers to proficiently use all equipped weapons, and focus on organizing live-fire exercises at all levels in 2014.
Regularly coordinate closely with other forces to observe and thoroughly understand the operational situation on the islands and at sea, especially during important national holidays and festivals. Along with practicing combat plans thoroughly, it is necessary to coordinate closely with Party committees, authorities, and other forces on the islands to firmly grasp the situation and proactively handle any incidents effectively. Units should pay attention to organizing a thoughtful, safe, and economical Lunar New Year celebration for the troops, while always being ready to fight and firmly defend national sovereignty over the islands and seas during the holiday season.
On this occasion, the Commander of the Military Region also visited, presented gifts, and extended New Year greetings to the Party committees, authorities, and forces on duty on Con Co Island and Me Island.
