A night honoring creative works.

(Baonghean) - For the past 13 years, it has become a tradition that the Nghe An Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Award Ceremony takes place at the beginning of each year. This year's award honored 14 projects… this is not only an activity to honor achievements but also a gathering place for the intellect of Nghe An province's scientists who are constantly innovating and striving for excellence.

On the evening of January 3rd, 2014, the auditorium of Vinh University was bustling with activity. Besides students – the young intellectuals of the country – many scientists, dedicated staff, and their families gathered there. There were radiant smiles, bouquets of fresh flowers, and pensive faces reflecting on what they had done for their compatriots and for life today. Unlike typical summary and award ceremonies, the cultural performance by the Vinh University youth union members was very brief. A group song about the creativity and progress of the Vietnamese people in today's era conveyed the message: Only intellect can lead humanity to a civilized life. Science is the straight, unchanging path.

Đồng chí Huỳnh Thanh Điền - Phó Chủ tịch UBND tỉnh trao giải thưởng Khoa học Công nghệ cho các tác giả đạt giải năm 2013.
Comrade Huynh Thanh Dien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - presented the Science and Technology Award to the winning authors of the 2013 competition.

At the main ceremony, the program organizers briefly summarized the 43 scientific projects submitted for this year's innovation award. All 43 projects and innovations have been, are being, and will be applied to a wide range of practical life situations, solving many problems that agencies and units encounter daily. Of particular note were the projects: the software "Supporting Detention Management" by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Lam and his colleagues, working at the Nghe An Provincial Police Detention Center; the project "Treatment of Cerebral Vascular Malformations by Endovascular Intervention" by Mr. Duong Dinh Chinh and Mr. Nguyen Tat Thang, working at the Provincial Friendship General Hospital; and the project "Application of Information Technology in Medical Examination, Treatment, and Teaching" by Mr. Cao Truong Sinh and Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Tho, working at Vinh Medical University... Large screens successively introduced these projects, receiving continuous applause from the large audience filling the auditorium.

Nguyen Thanh Binh, a student from the Mathematics Department of Vinh University, attentively followed each part of the awards ceremony. Binh said: “The organizers' decision to hold the awards ceremony at Vinh University has had a great impact and encouraged the students' learning spirit. In our eyes, the awarded projects are not at all abstract; they are closely related to daily life. And I think we can do that. From now on and after graduation, we will strive to learn and research so that we can be among the authors who have the honor of standing on this brilliant stage to be recognized like today…”

Entering the main ceremony, Mr. Tran Quoc Thanh - Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Nghe An province - delivered the opening remarks, stating: This year, several major science centers in the province, such as Vinh University, Vinh University of Technology and Education, Vietnam-Korea Vocational Technical College, Friendship General Hospital, etc., have submitted high-value research and application projects for the competition. The vast majority of the submitted projects are innovations that not only possess theoretical and scientific value but also demonstrate high socio-economic effectiveness. These projects have been applied and effectively utilized in practice for at least one year or more. In addition to familiar fields such as industry, agriculture, fisheries, and education, there are also outstanding projects in the fields of information technology, biotechnology, and high technology in medicine.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thu, an official from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, expressed: “Through the projects submitted to the Nghe An Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Award, we have seen encouraging signs – high technology is no longer something too far-fetched. With the efforts and creativity of scientists, and the involvement of managers and businesses, it is gradually becoming a reality in production and daily life. For example, for the first time in Nghe An, spirulina algae and fermented soybean Nato Kinaza products have been successfully researched and produced, opening up a new direction for the development of microfungus and microalgae technology in the province…”

Dr. Duong Dinh Chinh, from the Provincial Friendship General Hospital, co-author of the project "Treatment of Cerebral Vascular Malformations by Endoscopic Intervention" – Second Prize winner of the 2013 Science and Technology Innovation Award – shared: “This project is a new breakthrough in the development of high-tech techniques in patient treatment. Nationwide, except for Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hue, Nghe An is the first locality to develop and apply this technique. In the future, it will be implemented as a routine procedure. In the coming year, I and my colleagues will continuously strive to learn, apply, and develop more new techniques to meet the healthcare needs of the people. What we do simply stems from practical needs.”

This year, the judging process was meticulously conducted by both the specialized and provincial-level judging panels, as every project was deemed worthy. However, after two rounds of judging, only 14 projects were selected for awards, including 1 first prize, 3 second prizes, 6 third prizes, and 4 consolation prizes. The prize money this year was also significantly increased, totaling 180 million VND… For scientists, the greatest honor remains contributing their intellect to the improvement of science and technology, creating useful innovations in the fields of security, industrial production, construction, agricultural and rural development, healthcare, education, and training. “Nothing is more fulfilling than living for others,” shared Mr. Hoang Van Hoi from Vinh University, whose project “Low-Cost Plastic Fish Cages for Reservoirs” (Second Prize).

The awards ceremony was very solemn, recognizing and appreciating the efforts, passion, tireless work, and dedication of the scientists. The fireworks and laurel wreaths adorned the radiant faces of the award recipients, becoming a driving force for the projects and initiatives that scientists are nurturing, which will soon be put into practice and become reality in production… The call to action for everyone to participate in scientific and technological innovation, delivered by Comrade Huynh Thanh Dien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, once again reminded everyone that Nghe An is still in the process of escaping poverty and striving to become a prosperous province, as President Ho Chi Minh always hoped and instructed for his homeland. Nghe An is still poor, so the children of the Lam River - Dung Quyet homeland cannot remain indifferent. To develop, we have no other choice but to promote research and application of science and technology in production and daily life. At the same time, it is necessary to continue promoting the creative labor movement in production and business, so that many valuable initiatives and experiences can be widely applied and disseminated.

The call to arms for the 2014 scientific and technological innovation emulation movement to all levels of society once again emphasizes: The greatest and most precious resource is human resources… The awards ceremony has ended, but the lingering echoes and the dazzling lights on the stage today will spread like a halo in the hearts of those who are “working for their homeland and country today.” Nghe An people have long been famous for their spirit of overcoming difficulties, so there is no reason why they cannot rise to conquer new heights. I believe that within you, within me, within each of us, we are determined to uphold the traditions, intelligence, diligence, perseverance, and the will to succeed of the people of Nghe An to continuously innovate and advance, contributing effectively to the economic development goals of the province in particular and the country in general.
