Ceremony of offering sticky rice cakes to express gratitude to Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan

(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of the 6th day of the Lunar New Year of the Horse (February 5, 2014), in Nam Giang commune, Nam Dan district, the Nghe An Tourism Association and Saigon Kim Lien Joint Stock Company organized a ceremony to offer banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes) at the tomb of Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan - the mother of President Ho Chi Minh.

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Vu The Binh - Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association; Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nghe An; representatives of the Nghe An Tourism Promotion Center, staff and employees of Saigon Kim Lien Joint Stock Company, along with a large number of local people and tourists.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, beat the drum to officially open the cake offering ceremony.

Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan, the mother of President Ho Chi Minh, was the woman who gave birth to and raised three outstanding children for the country: Nguyen Sinh Khiem, Nguyen Thi Thanh, and Nguyen Sinh Cung - President Ho Chi Minh - the national liberation hero and outstanding cultural figure.

The two banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes) measured 1m x 1m x 0.5m, each weighing 350kg, and were traditionally wrapped in dong leaves and sticky rice.

Following the opening ceremony at the Saigon – Kim Lien Hotel (Vinh City), the organizing committee carried banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes) to offer at the tomb of Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan in Nam Giang commune (Nam Dan district). Afterwards, the cakes were brought back to the Saigon – Kim Lien Hotel to be distributed as blessings to everyone.
