The British Museum, citing research data from February 7th, stated that these traces, found near the city of Happisburgh in North Norfolk, are considered the earliest evidence of human life in Northern Europe.

According to Nick Ashton, a scientist at the museum, these traces were discovered accidentally in rock sediments in May 2013.

Scientists believe these footprints may belong to five people, both adults and children, with the tallest measuring 175cm. However, the race to which these ancient people belonged remains a mystery to researchers.

To date, these are the third oldest ancient human footprints ever found. The oldest are those in Tanzania, dating back 3.5 million years, while the "younger" ones are those in Kenya, left by humans 1.5 million years ago.
