27 years in prison for 2 drug traffickers

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of January 14, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to try the case of illegal drug trafficking against Vi Van La and Luong Van Quoc.

According to the indictment of the Provincial People's Procuracy, although they did not know each other, a man named Hai came to the house of Vi Van La (born in 1977, residing in Canh village, Nga My commune, Tuong Duong) and told La how to transport drugs to Quy Hop to make a profit. On July 18, 2013, Hai called La and told him to buy drugs to sell to Hai. With the money from selling a cow for 12 million VND and pawning some gold bars for 8 million VND, La agreed to buy drugs to sell to Hai.

On the morning of July 23, 2013, La went to the house of Luong Van Quoc (born in 1971, residing in Xop Chang village, Yen Hoa commune, Tuong Duong) and asked Quoc to contribute money to buy drugs and share the profits. Quoc agreed to contribute 10 million VND. The two went into the forest, met 2 Lao people and bought 1.4 "trees" of heroin for 28 million VND. Both brought the "goods" to Quoc's house. The man named Hai continued to call La to ask if he had bought the heroin yet. If he had, he would take him to Binh Chuan commune (Con Cuong) to deliver the goods, the price was 22 million VND/"tree". However, when he got to that location, Hai said he did not have any money and asked La to follow him to Chau Thai commune (Quy Hop), and he would raise the price to 35 million VND/"tree". When he got to Binh Chuan, Hai led La to a hidden road to meet a customer but was caught red-handed by the police. Taking advantage of the chaos, the man named Hai quickly fled.

At the trial, Vi Van La and Luong Van Quoc confessed honestly and showed remorse. The jury found that the two defendants were ethnic minorities, had limited education, and had families with revolutionary contributions, and were entitled to mitigating circumstances, so they sentenced Vi Van La to 14 years in prison and Luong Van Quoc to 13 years in prison.
