On the latest FIFA rankings (May 2014), the Brazilian national team climbed two places to 4th in the world, their highest position since July 2011. Thus, Brazil has returned to the number 1 position in South America after surpassing Colombia and Uruguay.

Standing above Brazil, Spain still holds the world number 1 position, followed by Germany and Portugal when the Top 3 has no change in the latest rankings. Behind the Top 4 are 3 South American teams Colombia (5), Uruguay (6) and Argentina (7). The remaining 3 teams in the Top 10 are Switzerland (8), Italy (9) and Greece (10).

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast is the highest-ranked African team in the FIFA rankings for May, at 21st, just above Egypt (24th) and Algeria (25th).

The May FIFA rankings saw Honduras (30th, up 2 places) return to the Top 30 for the first time in 12 years. However, the team that improved the most in May was Mauritania, as the team from Northwest Africa rose 13 places to 139th in the world.

In Southeast Asia, although it did not increase any rank in May, the Vietnam team still ranked number 1 (116th, 242 points), far ahead of the second-ranked team, the Philippines (140, 161 points).
