MobiFone mobile network will become an independent entity, separated for privatization rather than being bundled with other underperforming VNPT member companies.

MobiFone mobile network has officially received government approval to separate from VNPT for privatization, as requested by the Ministry of Information and Communications.

This information was provided by Minister and Head of the Government Office Nguyen Van Nen at a government press conference held late this afternoon (April 1).

Mr. Nên stated that yesterday afternoon (March 31), the Standing Committee of the Government met and agreed with the proposal of the Ministry of Information and Communications to separate the mobile telecommunications sector in preparation for privatization. Vinaphone and MobiFone will become two separate entities so that both can be strong, continue to maintain their brands, and develop better.

At the same time, the Government also assigned the relevant ministry to implement the restructuring in accordance with the roadmap approved by the Government.

Mr. Nên stated that the government will soon issue an official document on this matter.

Also at the press conference, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son said that recently, society has been very interested in the restructuring of VNPT, because this not only affects about 45,000 VNPT employees but also tens of millions of VinaPhone and MobiFone network users.

According to Mr. Nguyen Bac Son, the Prime Minister and advisory agencies worked very cautiously when making the decision. On the afternoon of March 31, the VNPT restructuring plan was approved, with the focus on separating MobiFone from VNPT.

Previously, according to the telecommunications market restructuring plan submitted to the Government by the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry's policy was to separate MobiFone from VNPT Group and establish a Mobile Communications Corporation. This corporation would provide multiple services, including mobile communication services, and MobiFone would be a member.

According to sources from VnEconomy, the MobiFone mobile network will become an independent entity, separated for privatization rather than being bundled with other underperforming VNPT member companies as previously proposed by VNPT.
