Quynh Luu: Spring rice crop yield estimated at 6.9 tons/ha

(Baonghean.vn) -In the spring of 2014, Quynh Luu district planted 7,572 hectares of rice. The main rice varieties planted included: Nhi Uu 986, Khai Phong 1, Thai Xuyen 111, and BTE 1.

By May 23rd, farmers in Quynh Luu had harvested 30% of their total rice crop, with an estimated average yield of 6.9 tons/ha. Compared to the 2013 spring crop, this spring's average yield is 3 quintals/ha higher. This is because in the 2013 spring crop, some areas in Quynh Luu planted the AC5 rice variety, which was infected with pests and diseases, reducing yield.

After harvesting the spring rice crop, farmers in Quynh Luu immediately switched to planting the summer-autumn and main crop rice, covering an area of 7,600 hectares, including 5,500 hectares of summer-autumn rice and 2,100 hectares of main crop rice.
