Vinh City won first place overall at the 7th Provincial Sports Festival
(Baonghean.vn) - Although there is still one event that has not finished competing, tug of war, but by the end of the penultimate competition day today (May 15), the 5 leading units of the 7th Nghe An Provincial Sports Festival 2014 have been determined: Vinh City, Quynh Luu, Dien Chau, Nam Dan and Do Luong.
Yesterday, Vinh City let Quynh Luu surpass them on the medal table because they had 1 less gold medal (22 compared to 23). By the end of today's competition, Vinh City won 2 more gold medals and Quynh Luu won 1 more gold medal. Thus, the two units are equal in the number of gold medals, however, Vinh City ranked higher thanks to more silver medals (17, compared to 15 for Quynh Luu).
The first gold medal that Vinh City won in today's competition was in women's volleyball. At Kim Lien Commune Stadium (Nam Dan), the two teams that entered the final match, Vinh City and Quy Hop, gave the audience an extremely exciting match. This was also the rematch of the two teams after meeting in the group stage (Quy Hop won with a score of 2-1). With the determination to "pay back the debt" and also to win another valuable gold medal for their team, the female athletes of Vinh City played with great determination. However, the Quy Hop women's volleyball team, with the main members being players from Nghia Xuan commune's women's volleyball team, proved to be a tough opponent and equally determined.
In the first set, the two teams continuously competed in points and Vinh City won with a score of 27-25. In the second set, Quy Hop regained balance after surpassing their opponents with a score of 25-23. The third set continued to be a spectacular score chase and Vinh City once again took the lead with a score of 25-23. With a psychological advantage, the female athletes from Vinh City overwhelmed their opponents in the first and fourth sets and ended the match with a score of 25-19 to win the final score of 3-1.
Also in the morning, the athletes won the second gold medal in the petanque event. Compared to the Nghi Loc, Do Luong and Cua Lo teams, the Vinh team is not highly regarded in this event. However, in the men's technical marbles event, athlete Nguyen Anh Tu surprisingly brought home the 24th gold medal for the host team. The 9 events of the petanque event ended with the Cua Lo team leading (2 gold medals). The Nghi Loc and Do Luong teams each won 2 gold medals. The remaining gold medal was won by the Quynh Luu team in the women's technical marbles event. This was also the only gold medal won by the Quynh Luu team in today's competition.
In athletics, the final four events took place: men's 5,000m run, women's 3,000m run, men's 4x100 relay and women's 4x100 relay. In these events, the Quynh Luu team won 2 more gold medals, bringing the total number of gold medals won in athletics to 4. However, in the end, the Dien Chau team still ranked behind the Quynh Luu team in this event (5 gold medals). The Vinh City and Hung Nguyen teams each won 3 gold medals. The remaining 5 gold medals belonged to the Thanh Chuong, Nam Dan, Tan Ky, Do Luong and Hoang Mai Town teams.
