of Vietnam.

At the meeting, Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam in Geneva, Head of the Vietnamese delegation at the meeting, announced to the United Nations Human Rights Council a list of 182 recommendations that Vietnam accepted out of a total of 227 recommendations that countries and international organizations had raised during the second universal periodic review of Vietnam (80.17%).

This is a very high approval rate in the history of the UPR Mechanism at the United Nations Human Rights Council, clearly demonstrating Vietnam's seriousness, sincerity, openness and high determination. Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh affirmed that Vietnam's acceptance of a large number of recommendations stems from its consistent policy and strong commitment to ensuring and promoting human rights in Vietnam.

The Ambassador emphasized that in recent times, despite certain socio-economic difficulties, Vietnam has always made efforts to enhance the enjoyment of economic, social, cultural, civil and political rights in accordance with international standards, strived to complete all Millennium Development Goals, perfected the legal system, mechanisms, guidelines and policies to increasingly better ensure rights and freedoms, and gradually improved the material and spiritual life of the people.

The Ambassador also announced that Vietnam will seriously implement the 182 UPR recommendations as well as other voluntary commitments of Vietnam, emphasizing the exemplary spirit and responsibility of a member country of the Human Rights Council and Vietnam's respect for the UPR mechanism. Vietnam will regularly update and share experiences and lessons as well as exchange and dialogue with countries, international and non-governmental organizations to successfully implement the recommendations, significantly enhance the rights and freedoms of the people and contribute to the cause of protecting and promoting human rights around the world.

During the dialogue, representatives of many countries and international organizations highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts and achievements in ensuring human rights, welcomed Vietnam's acceptance of most recommendations and its cooperative and constructive attitude in the UPR process in particular and ensuring human rights in Vietnam in general.

Some statements especially welcomed the Vietnamese National Assembly's approval of the 2013 Constitution that promotes human rights and warmly congratulated Vietnam on its early completion of many Millennium Development Goals, considering it a model in creating fundamental conditions to ensure human rights.

In response to the outlandish statements of some non-governmental organizations that took advantage of the United Nations mechanism to deny Vietnam's achievements in human rights, the Head of the Vietnamese delegation once again affirmed that Vietnam will continue to make efforts to ensure better and better human rights, while strengthening constructive dialogue and active cooperation with countries and international organizations, especially the United Nations human rights mechanisms, thereby rejecting those erroneous views.

Finally, the Council unanimously approved the Universal Periodic Report on the review of human rights in Vietnam, cycle 2, submitted by the Working Group. After the meeting ended, many representatives of countries and international organizations came to congratulate the Vietnamese delegation.
