June 18, 2014 18:17

The noni tree, scientifically known as Morinda citrifolia L., is commonly grown in gardens for medicinal purposes. It is very effective in treating high blood pressure.

The noni tree is about 4-7 meters tall, with a smooth trunk and many large branches. Its leaves are opposite, oval-shaped, pointed at the tip, and 12-15 cm long. Flowers bloom in January-February, and the fruit ripens in July-August. The fruit is egg-shaped with rough skin, about 5-6 cm long. When unripe, it is light green; when ripe, it is yellowish-orange, with a strong, pungent smell. The flesh is soft and edible, with a hard kernel in the center. The parts used for medicine include the fruit, roots, leaves, and seeds of the noni tree.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, the noni fruit has laxative effects and is used to regulate menstruation, treat postpartum hemorrhage, leucorrhea, coughs, colds, asthma, edema, tendon pain, diabetes, dysentery, support the immune system, and fight inflammation; the noni root has laxative and diuretic effects, soothes the nerves, reduces pain, lowers blood pressure, and acts as a diuretic.

Noni leaves are used to increase energy, reduce fever, and regulate menstruation (crushed leaves are applied to treat boils, promote skin regeneration, or brewed into a tea to treat dysentery, fever, and as a tonic); the bark of the noni tree is boiled in water for women to drink after childbirth to replenish blood.

Here are the benefits of the noni plant.

- Treats chronic headaches and migraines:24g of noni root, 12g of Cassia fistula seeds, 12g of Cissus quadrangularis, 12g of Centella asiatica, 8g of processed and marinated Rhus chinensis root. Add half a liter of water and decoct until only 250ml remains. Divide into two doses and drink while the medicine is still hot.

- Treats back pain, muscle aches, and numbness:Chop up and dry the roots of the noni plant (about 1/2 kg), roast them until golden brown, then soak them in 2 liters of 45% alcohol for half a month. Drink a small glass before meals.

- Treating high blood pressure:Finely chop and dry the noni root, then boil 30-40g of it in water and drink it throughout the day instead of regular water. After a course of 10-15 days, check your blood pressure. If it has decreased, gradually reduce the amount of noni root and continue drinking it for over two months; your blood pressure will then stabilize.

- Treats dysentery, diarrhea, and fever:Wash 3-5 fresh noni leaves and boil them in half a liter of water until only 200ml remains. Divide this into two portions and drink twice a day. Continue this for 3-5 days.

- Treats insomnia, nervous exhaustion, and high blood pressure:24g of noni root, 12g of roasted cassia seed, 8g of centella asiatica, 8g of Poria cocos, 6g of grapefruit peel, 3 slices of ginger. Add half a liter of water and decoct until 250ml remains. Divide into two doses and drink hot throughout the day.

- Treating menstrual disorders in people with high blood pressure:20g of noni fruit, 20g of motherwort, 12g of stir-fried and vinegar-soaked cyperus rhizome, 6g of licorice root. Boil one dose daily, divided into 2-3 servings throughout the day.

- To treat back pain and aching limbs: Slice 200g of ripe noni fruit thinly and soak it in 2 liters of alcohol. Drink 20-30ml 2-3 times a day.

- Treating back pain caused by kidney problems:12g of noni root, 8g of sweet potato leaves, 8g of *Cissus quadrangularis*, 8g of *Gmelina arborea* vine, 8g of *Syzygium jambos* rhizome, 8g of *Phaseolus vulgaris*, 8g of mulberry mistletoe, 8g of elephant ear root, 12g of *Panax notoginseng*. Add half a liter of water, decoct until 250ml remains. Divide into two doses and drink hot throughout the day.

- Treating constipation in people with high blood pressure:Eat noni fruit with a little salt.

- Treating pain caused by rheumatism:20g of noni root, 20g of *Tinospora cordifolia* vine, 20g of *Smilax glabra* root, 20g of *Cynodon dactylon* root, 6g of licorice root. Boil one dose daily, divided into 2-3 servings throughout the day.

In folk medicine, people often take nearly ripe noni fruit, wash it thoroughly, let it dry, slice it, and mix it with 1 kg of noni fruit and 200 grams of granulated sugar. After 15 days, they press the mixture to extract the juice and drink it gradually, about two small glasses with each meal. This is said to have the following effects: nourishing the body, regulating blood pressure, strengthening the immune system, restoring damaged and weakened cells, fighting inflammation, and reducing body aches and fatigue.

Young noni leaves cooked in soup with eel or beef are very effective in nourishing people who have just recovered from illness or those with weakened bodies, helping them regain their health quickly.
