Recognition of Vietnam Heritage Trees for two ancient bonsai trees

Currently, the two trees are growing very well, planted in pots, with lush branches and leaves in a bonsai shape.

287 year old star fruit tree

Mr. Ngo Quang Tuyen, Deputy Director of Dong Thap Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the 287-year-old star fruit tree and the 326-year-old banyan tree planted at Nguyen Sinh Sac Relic Site, Ward 4, Cao Lanh City have just been recognized as Vietnam Heritage Trees by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment. The two trees were planted next to the tomb of Nguyen Sinh Sac, the father of President Ho Chi Minh.

Currently, the two trees are growing very well, planted in pots, with lush branches and leaves in a bonsai style. The star fruit tree is 0.5m wide and 4m high, bearing a lot of fruit each year, very sweet to eat.

The 3m high banyan tree is trimmed in layers, each side has 9 layers, like a pagoda. The banyan tree was planted by Mr. Ngo Van Hay (teacher Ky) in Tan Hung, Sa Dec in 1688. Mr. Hay's descendants brought this tree to present to the Nguyen Sinh Sac Relic Site.

These are the first two trees of Dong Thap to be recognized as heritage trees.
