Quang Liem and his teammates rose to 13th place out of 150 teams with 7 points. |
In the men's group, after being held to a regrettable draw by Switzerland (average elo 2,493, seeded 51), Vietnam (average elo 2,553, seeded 31) had to face a more difficult opponent, seeded 48th Paraguay (average elo 2,506, a team considered to be more evenly matched than Switzerland).
However, Vietnam is still rated higher and this time, Quang Liem and his teammates played to their full potential to bring home a convincing 3.5 - 0.5 victory.
In this match, Truong Son (2.613) was the only one to share points with Delgado (2.602), while Quang Liem (2.710), Duc Hoa (2.506) and Minh Huy (2.507) respectively surpassed Bachmann (2.644), Cubas (2.455) and Latorre (2.277).
With 2 points, Vietnam has risen to 13th place out of 150 teams with 7 points. In game 5, Quang Liem and his teammates will face a big challenge when facing England, the 10th seed (average elo 2,681), the team right behind Vietnam with the same 7 points.
In the women's group, the 1-3 defeat against the 10th seed Armenia (average elo 2,383) did not discourage the Vietnamese girls and vice versa, Mai Hung and his teammates won a convincing 3-1 victory against the 77th seed Malaysia (average elo 1,928). Mai Hung (2,307) easily overcame Bakir (1,964) in the first game, Nhu Y (2,269) and Bao Tram (2,329) also did the same against Li Ting (1,945) and Nabila (1,916) respectively, although Phuong Hanh (2,171) later lost to Najiha (1,886) but the final victory still belonged to Vietnam.
With this result, Vietnam has risen to 25th place out of 136 teams with 6 points. In round 5, Vietnam will meet the 28th seed Mongolia (average elo 2,251), the team also has 6 points and is ranked 29th.
