The official announcement just posted by FIFA reads: "Player Luis Suarez will be suspended for 9 official matches. The first match in the penalty will be applied immediately in the match between Colombia and Uruguay on June 28. The remaining matches will be applied in the next rounds of Uruguay at the 2014 World Cup, as well as the following qualifying round. In addition, player Luis Suarez is also banned from participating in any football activities within 4 months. Player Luis Suarez must also pay a fine of 100,000 Swiss francs (equivalent to£65,751, or approximately VND2.4 billion)".

This decision of FIFA has just beennotify Suarez and the Uruguayan Football Federation.

"Such actions are unforgivable on the pitch, especially at a tournament like the World Cup, when millions of eyes are watching what happens on the pitch. The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has taken into account all factors and the seriousness of Luis Suarez's actions before deciding on the sanction. The decision comes into effect immediately after being announced," said Claudio Sulser, chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.

Suarez became the center of attention at the 2014 World Cup after the striker bit defender Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder in the final group stage match between Uruguay and Italy. Suarez's team won 1-0 and beat Italy to qualify for the round of 16. Speaking after the incident, the head coach and captain of the Uruguayan team both spoke out in support of Suarez. The country's Football Federation even emphasized that the photo of Suarez biting Chiellini that appeared in the press was photoshopped.

However, these are all lame excuses because the whole world has seen what Suarez did to Chiellini. Moreover, this is the third time in his career that Suarez has bitten an opponent. When he was playing for Ajax, Suarez bit PSV's Bakkal on the shoulder and was suspended for 7 matches. Last year, the Uruguayan striker continued to bite Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic on the hand and was suspended for 10 matches. That's not to mention that Suarez was banned for a long time for racially abusing Patrice Evra.

Suarez’s punishment has affected not only Uruguay, but also Liverpool FC. Due to being banned from football activities for 4 months from now, Suarez will not be able to play again until the end of October, when the Premier League has been in operation for more than 2 months. Last season, Suarez also missed the first 6 Premier League matches due to the suspension he received for biting Ivanovic.
