Emotions during exam season

(Baonghean) - So many years have passed since I first set foot in university. But every time exam season comes around, those familiar, stirring emotions return. I see myself as the little girl I once was, washing my pristine white dress for the big day, my eyes welling up with tears as my mother ran after the car that was starting to move, handing me a pale purple towel to wipe away the sweat. I remember my father's eyes as he saw me off at the school gate, filled with worry, anticipation, and hope. I remember the bewildered faces of the students in the schoolyard, the strange silence when the exam papers were distributed, and the excitement of the students after each exam. I remember the first phone call I made to tell my mother the news; on the other end of the line, it seemed like she was crying...

It can be considered the first page of a new chapter in life, a chapter you must begin with, filled with both wonder and joy, and new experiences. It's a time when you feel the need to soar like a hawk in the vast sky, venturing out onto its paths to live life to the fullest. It's a time when you suddenly realize how precious everything that has passed is, even if it's just a tiny wildflower on a familiar embankment, the simple moss-covered roofs of the countryside, or your mother's pale purple scarf accidentally dropped outside the bus window... It's also a time when you engrave a vow in your heart: to live a life truly worthy of that vow!

In life, there are many important milestones, but for me, that exam season was the most memorable. It opened up a wider space for me to step into, laid out paths I could choose and walk, bestowed upon me a wealth of knowledge and new friends, enriched my thoughts with maturity, added hope and confidence, and, to some extent, allowed me to see my own reflection on the journey of self-definition. Since that day, I count the exam season every year. One season, two seasons, three seasons... I count to remember the memories, and also to see whether I succeeded or failed in the exams I set for myself from that turning point. Sometimes, I realize I've come a step further, and when I recall the excitement and enthusiasm of being a young girl graduating from high school all those years ago, I lean on those memories to stand up and rekindle my determination.

On those occasions, I would call my mother back home. On the other end of the line, it seemed like she was crying.
