Obon festival has the same meaning as Vu Lan festival in Vietnam.
In Japan, the Obon festival is an annual event held to commemorate ancestors and reunite families. During this festival, lanterns are often hung in front of houses or on high platforms to guide the deceased back home. At the end of the festival, these lanterns are released into rivers.
In the Kyoto region, the most special activity of the festival is the fire offering ceremony to show the descendants' respect for their ancestors. Accordingly, five large fires will be lit on five mountains surrounding this area for about an hour.
The representative of the organizing committee said that the reenactment of the Obon festival promises to bring visitors many interesting experiences. This will be an opportunity for the public of the capital Hanoi to learn about the country, people and traditional culture of Japan.
The program is jointly organized by the Japanese Cultural Club of Hanoi-Amsterdam High School and Yotsuba Cultural Center.
Free admission program.
