Opening of the Fine Arts Exhibition of the South Central and Central Highlands regions

To celebrate the August Revolution and National Day September 2, on August 17, in Kon Tum city, the Vietnam Fine Arts Association in collaboration with Kon Tum province organized the opening ceremony of the fine arts exhibition in the South Central and Central Highlands regions.

The exhibition introduces 187 works by 184 authors from 9 provinces, including Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa.

The authors have used many different materials to create images such as oil paint, lacquer, silk, acrylic, bronze, wood... to create paintings. Wooden statues, stone statues, metal statues, composites, colored wood carvings, black and white wood carvings, propaganda paintings... to create sculptures and graphics.

Through their works, the authors have introduced to viewers the diverse activities of people, of ethnic groups in the highlands and coastal plains; images of the spiritual life of ethnic groups in the Central Highlands, of people in coastal areas. In addition, the theme of the sea and islands has been exploited by the authors from many different perspectives, contributing to the cause of protecting the Fatherland, demonstrating the responsibility of artists on the ideological and cultural front.

According to artist Tran Khanh Chuong, Chairman of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, the works were created from June 2013 to June 2014 with a variety of materials and artistic language. Many traditional and modern materials were used appropriately by the artists to create high-quality works. The authors have researched and innovated in the language of brushwork, composition... to create works imbued with sincere, rustic emotions, conveying emotions to the viewers. Many works are quite large in size and use sustainable materials, creating a good impression on the viewers.

The Art Council has awarded 8 prizes for the Regional Fine Arts Exhibition, including 1 A prize, 1 B prize, 1 B prize and 5 awards. The A prize was awarded to the work: oil painting "Children of the Sea" by author Tran Quyet Thang (Phu Yen). The Council also selected 16 works of authors to compete for the 2014 National Committee Award of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations.

The exhibition will end on August 25./.
