Tens of thousands of people braved the rain to visit the General's grave on Independence Day
Despite the heavy rain over the past few days, tens of thousands of people from all over the country have come to Vung Chua - Yen Island to visit the tomb of General Vo Nguyen Giap, regardless of the adverse weather conditions.
On the morning of September 1, reporters were present at Vung Chua - Yen Island in Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district (Quang Binh) to witness tens of thousands of people brave the rain to offer fragrant incense sticks, fresh bouquets of flowers and sincerely express their gratitude to General Vo Nguyen Giap on the occasion of National Day.

Although it has been raining heavily in Quang Binh over the past few days, groups of people still regularly head to General Vo Nguyen Giap at Vung Chua - Yen Island. Some wear raincoats, some hold umbrellas, some even leave their wet heads alone to offer incense and flowers to his coffin.
On the occasion of National Day (September 2) this year, Mrs. Tran Thi Thai (72 years old, from Thanh Hoa) despite being paralyzed in the legs still tried to use a wheelchair to go to Quang Binh to pay respect to the spirit of General Vo Nguyen Giap. Mrs. Thai confided: “I have had pain in my legs for several years now. Since the General passed away, I have not been able to visit him once, which makes me feel uneasy. Being old and weak, it is difficult to travel, so during this holiday, my son took me to Vung Chua - Yen Island to burn incense for the General…”.

Paralyzed in both legs and sitting in wheelchairs, Thai elders still visit General Vo Nguyen Giap to ease their pain.
Although the rain was getting heavier and longer, it could not stop the stream of people coming to pay their respects. The number of people coming to pay their respects to the General grew larger and larger.
Speaking to reporters, Senior Lieutenant Khac Ngoc Tan Hao, Captain of the General Vo Nguyen Giap Tomb Protection Team, said: “Since the time General Vo Nguyen Giap was brought back to his homeland, there have been a total of 110,000 delegations with more than 1.2 million visitors coming to visit the General’s tomb. In the three days before the ceremony (September 2), there were 13,000 delegations with nearly 30,000 people coming to visit.”
Due to the sudden increase in the number of visitors during the holiday (September 2), the authorities have increased their forces, many soldiers of the Border Guard, Police, and Traffic Police of Quang Trach district were present to direct traffic, ensure security and guide visitors to visit the grave safely and solemnly.
