Asiad 17: Phan Thi Ha Thanh wins historic medal

On the afternoon of September 24, Phan Thi Ha Thanh participated in the pole vault competition at the 17th Asian Games. She performed well and won 14,683 points, ranking third after DPRK athlete Hong Un Jong and Chusovitina Oksana (Uzbekistan).
Although she only won a bronze medal, Ha Thanh has made history in Vietnamese gymnastics. She is the first Vietnamese athlete to win a gymnastics medal at an Asian Games.

Speaking after winning the medal, Ha Thanh said: “I feel proud to be the first person to win a medal for Vietnamese gymnastics at an Asian Games. I feel that I need to make more efforts to improve the achievements of the Vietnamese sports delegation at this Asian Games.”
After Anh Vien, Ha Thanh continues to be the athlete who creates historical milestones for the Vietnamese sports delegation at this Asian Games. She will have more opportunities to win medals when participating in the finals of two single events of gymnastics on September 25.
