BTC stated that if the two teams are tied after the two halves of regulation time, a penalty shootout will determine the winner and award prizes: the winning team receives $5,000 and the losing team receives $2,000. This is the prize money for each match.

Speaking at a press conference held this afternoon at the First Hotel, Coach Miura said: “In fact, I don’t know much about the opponents that the Vietnamese team will face in the friendly matches, because what I care most about is how my players will perform in terms of playing style, tactical intentions… through these matches.”

Furthermore, the Japanese head coach also expressed: "This is the first time the Vietnamese national team, under my leadership, has played at Thong Nhat Stadium, so I hope my players will strive to perform well and achieve the best possible results, in order to lay the groundwork for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2014 next month."

Coach Miura also stated that the health of most Vietnamese players is good, except for goalkeeper Buu Ngoc who recently suffered a minor injury. Regarding finalizing the list, the head coach of the Vietnamese national team revealed that he will cut 4 out of 30 players when he arrives in Hanoi, and the official list will only be finalized before the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup.

Also at the press conference, VFF Vice President Tran Quoc Tuan expressed his sympathy and understanding to the HFF – the organizing unit of the tournament – because due to objective difficulties, the 2014 Ho Chi Minh City International Football Tournament could not take place as planned at the last minute. However, the organizers still made efforts to find guest teams to serve as "sparring partners" for the Vietnamese national team during their training camp in the South.
