On the morning of October 2nd, in Hanoi, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and the Project Management Board of the program for developing capacity in environmentally and socially responsible tourism organized a workshop on the draft of the 2013 Vietnam Tourism Annual Report.

This is the first annual tourism report compiled in our country according to international standards. The report provides stakeholders with information on the progress and achievements of the tourism industry in 2013, meeting the information needs of potential investors, the government and state management agencies, as well as tourism businesses. The report also points out the difficulties and challenges that the tourism industry will face in the future…

Mr. Vu Quoc Tri, Director of the EU Project, stated: "The immediate benefit of this report is that it will attract the attention of international investors because having this information will certainly enhance Vietnam's image and attractiveness significantly. I believe this report will have a major impact on investment in Vietnam's tourism sector. More importantly, the image and professionalism of Vietnamese tourism will be noticeably improved."

At the workshop, David McEwen, a statistics expert from the project, stated that the team drafting the report had consulted reports from Germany and Cambodia, and analyzed reports from Singapore, as a basis for developing Vietnam's report… Preparing an annual tourism report is essential.

"There is a difference and a change in this report – it has provided an analysis of the economic contribution of the tourism industry to the country's economy. In particular, it highlights the direct and indirect added value that the Vietnamese tourism industry brings and its contribution. I think that the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism is also striving towards building a professional, world-class annual report on Vietnamese tourism," Mr. David McEwen emphasized.
