Displaying a perfectly preserved 1,000-year-old mummy.

The perfectly preserved mummy of a woman, estimated to be around 50 years old, in a fetal position and dating back approximately 1,000 years, will be displayed for the first time in France.

According to the Independent, this is the mummy of a woman who died at around 50 years old. The mummy will be displayed at the Musee de Confluences in Lyon, France, later this month.

A team of Belgian experts discovered the mummy during an excavation in 2002. The burial site was an ancient settlement in the Pachacamac region, about 40 km from Peru's capital, Lima.

Here, they also found 80 mummies and skeletons, including those of infants and children, in an ancient tomb dating back 1,000 years. They may have been killed in a ritual. Approximately 70 other body parts scattered throughout the burial site also had similar fetal positions to the mummies about to be displayed.

The 600-hectare Pachacamac archaeological site is considered one of the most important discoveries of an ancient settlement, along with the Machu Picchu temple complex and the Nazca Lines.
