Humans are pushing the Earth to the 'danger zone'.

New research by scientists indicates that human activity has caused the Earth to exceed four out of nine environmental safety limits.

The study was published in the journal Science on January 15th. The limits at which Earth exceeds safe levels include climate change, biodiversity, changes in land use, and biogeochemical cycles that are altered in part by fertilizer use.

According to Reuters, these changes destabilize the complex interplay between humans, oceans, land, and air. Crossing these boundaries will make efforts to improve poverty or quality of life difficult. This may not cause immediate chaos, but it will push our planet into a period of instability.

"For the first time in human history, we need to connect with and assess the risks of planetary instability. We are at a stage where we can see sudden and irreversible changes due to climate change," said Johan Rockstrom, one of the study's authors. He emphasized that global warming, causing ice to melt, will release more greenhouse gases, creating a vicious cycle.

Environmental pollution is a serious problem that has exceeded acceptable limits. The concentration of CO2 in the air is currently at 395 ppm, while the acceptable level is 350 ppm.

In 2009, researchers assessed and identified nine safe limits for the planet, within which humanity could safely thrive and advance. The remaining five limits that have not been exceeded include ozone depletion, ocean acidification, freshwater demand, particulate matter in the air, and chemical pollutants.
