Sentenced defendant Nguyen Manh Tuong to 19 years in prison

This afternoon, after two days of trial, the Hanoi People's Court sentenced defendants Nguyen Manh Tuong and Dao Quang Khanh in the case of causing death and dumping the body at Cat Tuong Beauty Salon.

Overview of the trial

Nguyen Manh Tuong said: “During my work, I saved hundreds of lives and treated thousands of people. It cannot be said that I have no professional ethics. I feel remorseful and want to apologize to the family of the victim Le Thi Thanh Huyen. I never wanted bad consequences to happen to my victim. The family of the defendant has contributed to the revolution and sincerely hope that the panel of judges will consider and give me an appropriate sentence.”

Dao Quang Khanh also expressed remorse for his crimes and begged the jury to grant him leniency so that he could soon be reunited with his family. He apologized to his parents and family.

After deliberation, the panel of judges held that after reviewing the testimony of the witnesses and the defendant at the trial, as well as the testimony of the defendant and witnesses at the investigation agency, and considering the views of the People's Procuracy and the Lawyer, the panel of judges determined:

The actions of the defendant Nguyen Manh Tuong constituted the crime of Violating regulations on medical examination, treatment, drug production, drug dispensing, drug sale or other medical services and the crime of Violating corpses.

The People's Court sentenced defendant Nguyen Manh Tuong to 14 years in prison under Article 3, Article 242 of the Penal Code, and 5 years in prison under Clause 2, Article 246 of the Penal Code. The total sentence of defendant Nguyen Manh Tuong is 19 years in prison.

The panel also sentenced defendant Dao Quang Khanh to 9 months in prison for the crime of Theft of property as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 138 of the Penal Code, and 24 months in prison for the crime of Violation of a corpse as prescribed in Clause 2, Article 246 of the Penal Code. Khanh's total sentence is 33 months in prison.

The panel also ordered defendant Nguyen Manh Tuong to compensate the victim's family more than 580 million VND, and to provide 1 million VND per month for each victim's child until they turn 18 years old from the date of Ms. Huyen's death.

Defendant Nguyen Manh Tuong is banned from practicing for a period of 5 years after completing his prison term.

The defendants will have 15 days to appeal according to the provisions of the Law.
