A 7.9 magnitude earthquake with an epicenter at a depth of 2km occurred in Nepal on April 25, causing many buildings in the capital Kathmandu to collapse.

A thick layer of dust has blanketed the Nepalese capital. Many people have been injured and at least two have died.

Those with broken limbs were taken to the main hospital in the capital for treatment.

A woman was killed when a statue fell on her while she was in a park in the capital, a witness said. Another person died when her house collapsed.

“People poured into the streets or rushed to hospitals,” a Reuters reporter at the scene reported.

Photos posted online showed houses reduced to rubble, large cracks along roads and people sitting dazed in the streets.

The earthquake was felt as far away as New Delhi and northern Indian cities, where the shaking reportedly lasted for a minute.

“You could see the pictures from the studios in Delhi, the windows were shaking, everything was shaking for about a minute or so,” said an NDTV anchor in Delhi.

A police officer in India's Bihar state said their phone lines were jammed with calls from people across the populous state.

The US Geological Survey said the earthquake was initially measured at 7.7 magnitude and later upgraded to 7.9 magnitude./.
