Many nutritious foods are unsuitable for a child's delicate body and can even cause dangerous allergies.

1. Milk

According to The Health Site, nearly 60% of the world's population is allergic to milk, due to lactose intolerance, with the majority occurring in elementary and secondary school children.

There are two types of lactose intolerance. One is primary lactose intolerance, where children cannot consume milk or dairy products. In the case of secondary lactose intolerance, children can still digest dairy products such as yogurt and cheese.

Experts advise against giving cow's milk, goat's milk, or sheep's milk to children under 1 year old because these types of milk have a high protein content, which can cause allergies in infants.

Symptoms of milk allergy:

- Bloating

- Stomach congestion

- Diarrhea

- Vomiting

2. Soybeans

This food is incompatible with some children who have sensitive digestive systems. Soybeans can easily cause hormonal imbalances, therefore they can cause indigestion in some children.

Symptoms of soy allergy:

- Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and legs

- Swelling in the eyes

- Bloating and abdominal distension.

3. Foods rich in carotene

Carrots, cantaloupe, mangoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and papayas are some common foods that are rich in carotene. Carotene intolerance usually occurs at some point and may not be lifelong. This can happen when a child undergoes a course of strong, long-term antibiotic or steroid treatment.

Allergy symptoms:

- Green diarrhea

- Vomiting

- Jaundice

4. Shellfish

With their immature digestive systems, children, especially those under 1 year old, are very susceptible to allergies to shellfish such as crabs, snails, and shrimp. Some children only experience allergies for a short period, while others suffer from them for life.

Allergy symptoms:

- Hoarseness in the throat

- Wheezing and coughing

- Nausea and vomiting

- Pale skin

- Dizzy

5. Eggs

Eggs are very nutritious and beneficial to health, but mothers need to be careful when feeding them to infants because they are one of the foods that are most likely to cause allergies (especially egg whites).

Allergy symptoms:

- Skin rash, hives

- Stomachache

- Wheezing or shortness of breath

6. Wheat

Wheat allergy is common in children and is caused by the body's inability to digest gluten, a protein found in wheat that easily triggers allergic reactions.

Allergy symptoms:

- Diarrhea

- Indigestion

- Nausea, headache, heartburn

- Stomach-ache.

7. Nuts

Peanut allergy is common in young children. However, some other nuts such as almonds, walnuts, cashews, pistachios, etc., can also cause allergies.

Common symptoms:

- Swelling of the tongue, lips, and eyes

- Nausea

- Coughing, wheezing
