On November 5, 2007, the global technology community witnessed the birth of Android, which later became the most popular mobile operating system in the world.

Eight years ago, on November 5, 2007, the Open Handset Alliance, comprising Sony, Samsung, Google, HTC, Sprint, T-Mobile, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments, officially announced the Android platform. Created and offered as open source, Android's primary mission at the time was to challenge the market share of Windows Mobile, BlackBerry RIM, and Symbian – three extremely popular mobile operating systems prior to 2010.

And this alliance succeeded. Shortly after its launch, Android "killed" Palm (later acquired by HP), BlackBerry was under so much pressure that it recently had to launch an Android smartphone to "salvage" the situation. Microsoft also had to quickly change Windows Mobile to Windows Phone, and most recently to Windows 10, to cope with Android's dominance.

After 8 years of existence, Android continues to develop, upgrade, and expand the number of devices supported. From Astro Boy and Bender... to Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, Lollipop, and Marshmallow, Android has transformed from a rudimentary and simple mobile operating system into one considered "perfect in every aspect."

From high-end smartphones, after 8 years, there are now over 1 billion mobile devices worldwide running Android across all segments, including "ultra-luxury" phones. Not limited to smartphones, the "green robot" has also appeared in other tech devices such as tablets, smartwatches, set-top boxes, smart TVs, in-car entertainment systems, and even other household appliances.

With a release schedule of one major update per year, we can expect Android N to launch in the middle of next year. Let's wait and welcome the changes that will accompany Android's journey of existence and development in the mobile market. Happy birthday, Android!
