According to nutritionists, cream is a food that many children love, but parents need to be mindful when giving it to their children.

- Doctor, many people are now giving their children cream cheese. Is this necessary? When is the right time to give them cream cheese?

Dr. Nguyen Trong Hung (National Institute of Nutrition) advises:

- The main component in cream is primarily fat, with only a small amount of calcium and other micronutrients. Mothers can give cream to their babies, but the best age for children to eat it is over one year old.

However, there are some types of yogurt that even children under one year old can eat. The appropriate amount depends on the child's age and nutritional status. If a higher energy requirement is needed, the child can consume it daily or every other day.

When first introducing yogurt, start with small amounts and gradually increase according to your child's needs. The recommended daily intake for children aged 8 months to one year is 30-50g (equivalent to 1/2-1 container per day), while for children over one year old it is 50-80g.

Meanwhile, breast milk remains the best and safest source of nutrition for infants, as recommended by the World Health Organization. You should breastfeed your baby exclusively for the first 6 months and continue breastfeeding until 24 months or longer. Cereals, porridges, formula, or yogurt are only supplementary sources of nutrition.

It's important to note that you shouldn't give children too much cream, as it can cause bloating and diarrhea due to its high fat content. Children who are overweight, obese, have digestive problems, or are allergic to milk should avoid consuming it.

You should also avoid giving your child yogurt in the evening because their digestive system is resting at this time. If they eat yogurt, they may have difficulty digesting it, sleep poorly, and may vomit. Finally, you should only buy yogurt from reputable places with proper storage conditions. Pay attention to the expiration date and ingredients listed on the packaging to ensure your child's safety.
