iOS apps have more security holes than Android

This is the result of a report by two companies specializing in mobile security. On average, a mobile application has 9 security vulnerabilities, of which iOS has more vulnerabilities than Android.

Because of the platform's design, whenever you hear about malware or security risks around the world, it almost always originates from Android, even though there's little evidence of real risks outside of countries like Russia or China, where users rely on third-party app stores.

But a new report shows that the majority of security vulnerabilities in apps are in iOS apps, and these vulnerabilities tend to be even more serious.

Conventional wisdom has it that because Apple has more control over what apps can do on its platform and has a more rigorous app vetting process, its platform is more secure. But mobile security app vendors Checkmarx and AppSec Labs say this isn’t necessarily true.

The two companies' report found that 40% of vulnerabilities in iOS apps were critical, compared to 36% in Android. The report did not specify the exact number, but said the average mobile app had about nine vulnerabilities, with iOS apps having more than Android apps.

Personal information disclosure was the most common vulnerability, accounting for 27%. Identity and authorization issues came next at 23%. Many other vulnerabilities were discovered, including poor encryption, technical information disclosure, and more.
