In a statement released on the afternoon of November 19, a representative of TNS said that when using their phones, the young generation of Vietnam spends 53% of their time on social networking web browsers, 41% of their time watching videos, and 6% of their time shopping online. They also spend less than 1 hour a day watching TV and have no need to listen to the radio or read newspapers.

This result also shows that by constantly chasing young users, always updating the most advanced media, brands are at risk of ignoring many customers - older consumers (aged 46-65 in Vietnam) are also having significant changes in purchasing behavior, but at a slower pace.

Specifically, this group of people usually spend 2 hours a day watching TV and more than 10 minutes reading newspapers. Older people are also using online media more frequently.

TNS research also shows that consumers aged 46-65 also spend 1.5 hours a day using their phones, of which 21% of that time is spent accessing Facebook. For those aged 31-45, the time spent using their phones is 2.3 hours a day.

Mr. Ashish Kanchan, Managing Director of TNS Vietnam, said: "Mobile has changed the face of the marketing market in Vietnam. The younger generation is the main target, but we cannot ignore the older generation of consumers who are heavily influenced by traditional media. For the tiered strategy, it will reflect which channel spending is more appropriate for marketers in Vietnam."
