The 26th Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) will officially take place from November 26 to December 6, expected to help audiences gain more understanding of regional stories and the art of filmmaking through more than 150 feature and short films from 51 countries screened in many specialized programs.

Vietnam participated in SGIFF this year with the work "When I Lay Dying" by young director Nguyen Phuong Anh in the short film category competing for the official award and the film "Father and Son and..." by director Phan Dang Di screened in the Asian Vision program.

Speaking to VNA reporters, SGIFF Executive Director Wahhyuni A. Hadi said that it is very interesting that young Vietnamese filmmakers are participating in this year's Singapore International Film Festival, because these are new voices, telling new stories about Vietnam that Singaporean and regional audiences have not yet known. That is why audiences are very eager to see these works.

Ms. Hadi also expressed her desire to come to Vietnam to learn and establish partnerships.

SGIFF is the longest-running international film festival in Southeast Asia, considered a place for independent filmmakers to engage in dialogue and contribute to the development of regional cinema. The film chosen to open SGIFF this year is "Panay" by Taiwanese (Chinese) director Cheng Yu-chieh.

In addition, the 2015 Singapore International Film Festival also has many outstanding programs such as an introduction to Mexican cinema; the Asian Vision program introducing new works by famous Asian and international directors such as Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Jia Zhangke, Michel Gondry, Yorgos Lanthimos and a special program to honor Iranian director, Mohsen Makhmalbaf.
