Applying modern technology in wood processing

(Baonghean) - May Forestry Joint Stock Company - the investor of the project "Nghe An Wood Processing Factory" has now put into operation the panel production line and is expected to put into operation the MDF production line in May 2016. Not only creating jobs for thousands of workers and contributing to the sustainable development of Nghe An forestry, the application of the factory's leading modern European technology is also considered an effective solution to protect the environment.

Investment in modern equipment and processing technology

Being present at the MDF wood and fiberboard processing factory in early April, when the project was entering the "final" stage to put into operation, we witnessed the process and stages of installing very advanced, modern and especially environmentally friendly technology. The MDF wood and fiberboard processing factory project started construction in February 2013 on an area of ​​40 hectares in Nghia Dan industrial park with a total investment of 300 million USD.

Taking us on a tour of the project's environmental treatment facilities, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Toan - Head of the company's Labor Safety Department said: "During the construction and operation process, the MDF fiberboard factory has and will always fully implement measures to treat environmental pollution, control and prevent environmental pollution incidents from occurring."

The company has invested more than 18 billion VND to install environmental treatment facilities with the most modern machinery and equipment today, notably the dust treatment system (9 billion VND), the incinerator exhaust gas treatment system (5 billion VND), the centralized wastewater treatment system (2 billion VND), the wastewater drainage system (695 million VND), the rainwater drainage system (690 million VND), etc. In addition, with an investment of nearly 400 million VND to plant trees on the campus, the factory is promised to be an ideal and perfect environment according to the structure of an advanced industrial foundation.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Toan also added: “During the project construction phase and the project operation phase, it may cause pollution of the air, surface water, and underground water. Therefore, the investor has established an environmental monitoring program with the goal of continuously collecting information on changes in environmental quality to promptly detect negative impacts of the project and propose measures to prevent and minimize pollution; at the same time, ensure the safe operation of the project”.

Accordingly, the preparation and construction phase will monitor ambient air quality twice a year at the center of the project area, the entrance gate to the project construction area, the road to the project construction area and the western fence of the project. Wastewater quality and surface water quality will be monitored four times a year at the irrigation canal 200m from the project and at the outlet of the domestic wastewater treatment system. Monitoring of these environmental factors will be carried out even when the project is in operation, and will even increase the frequency to meet requirements and suit the production situation.

Building a professional way of working

The project management board established a specialized environmental team of 3 people, whose task is to regularly inspect the wastewater and stormwater collection and treatment system; promptly detect incidents for repair to ensure the effectiveness of the system, not causing environmental pollution; develop internal regulations and rules on labor hygiene and safety, develop a labor protection plan and environmental protection work in the area; propagate, educate, and raise awareness of environmental protection for officers and employees so that officers and employees understand and are conscious of environmental protection.

Currently, May Forestry Joint Stock Company is coordinating with 12 districts of Nghe An to organize forest planting on planned land to provide raw materials for Nghe An Wood Processing Factory. The raw material area planned by Nghe An Provincial People's Committee is 45,011.5 hectares (of which the leased land area is 11,589.1 hectares and the joint venture land area is 33,422.4 hectares).

With an expected time from planting to harvest of 5-7 years, supporting farmers in afforestation will help green bare hills. Therefore, economic benefits will go hand in hand with effective and sustainable environmental protection. Comrade Vi Van Son - Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Cuong District said: "Nghe An Wood Processing Factory Project invested by May Forestry Joint Stock Company has many advantages, including positive impacts on the environment of midland and mountainous districts. By supporting seeds, fertilizers, termite control chemicals, etc. and organizing inspections of afforestation results for each crop, farmers will be encouraged to actively plant forests. This will not only help people ensure their livelihoods but also increase the forest area".
