Bomb suspicion, Man Utd - Bournemouth match canceled

A suspicious bag was found in the North West Stand at Old Trafford, causing the match to be abandoned.

The match was officially abandoned on the advice of local police. A suspicious bag was found in the stands and officers searched the rest of the stadium. A military bomb squad and sniffer dogs were also called in to assist.

Bournemouth fans were disappointed to have to leave. They had travelled 400km to Old Trafford to watch the match.The Man Utd-Bournemouth match was scheduled to take place at 3pm local time (9pm Hanoi time), like the other nine matches in the final round of the Premier League. Thirty minutes before the match, the alarm bell rang at the stadium. Players warming up had to go to the dressing room. Fans in the Stretford End and Sir Alex Ferguson stands were asked to evacuate. Meanwhile, the remaining fans were told to stay calm and stay put. At 3:20pm, the police announced the match was cancelled and asked everyone to leave the stadium.

Bournemouth fan Steve Graham said: "We were told to calm down 30 minutes before the game. The other people in the other end had left the pitch. I heard there was a bomb and then everyone was evacuated."

The remaining nine Premier League matches will take place as normal.

"When it comes to security, we always put the safety of fans and stadium staff first. The Organizing Committee will announce the replay time as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to the audience," the Organizing Committee's announcement said.

Man Utd still hope to enter the Top 4 if they beat Bournemouth, and Man City must lose.
