The detective posed as a “customer” by chatting with the pimp via the WeChat app, a source said.
They discovered that in this area, Thai and Vietnamese female students were willing to provide physical services after being “ordered” online.
The “service fee” is around 1.8 million to 2.2 million VND for local guests and around 1.2 million to 1.4 million VND for foreign guests. The places for prostitution are usually in budget hotels.
Deputy regional police chief Ramli Din said he was focusing on busting prostitution dens and illegal drugs. At a press conference on September 2, Din said police had rescued three students, aged between 19 and 21, from a hotel in Ayer Keroh on August 26.
The pimps, two brothers aged 24 and 26, are also being detained and investigated.
“We seized all the evidence, including condoms, from the hotel which was used as a sex establishment. Preliminary investigation shows that the establishment had been operating for about a month,” he added.
In addition, in a raid at 1am on Tuesday, police also arrested two men, aged 37 and 40, who were selling sex to three foreign women, aged 25 to 29. This prostitution ring also operated online.
The victims are now being sent to shelters in Johor while police continue to dismantle other networks.
The students involved in the ring were said to be making money to support their lavish lifestyles.
