(Baonghean.vn) - Moderate to heavy rain, combined with rainfall in upstream districts, caused the water level of the Con River in Tan Ky district (Nghe An) to rise, flooding 62 houses and many areas of crops.

According to a summary from the District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development as of 10:00 AM on September 15, 2016, 62 houses in Ky Tan commune were flooded, and the residents have now been evacuated to safe areas; 1,210 hectares of rice and other crops in 7 communes (Ky Tan, Tan Huong, Nghia Hoan, Nghia Hanh, Huong Son, Tien Ky, and Tan Hop) were flooded, including 313 hectares of rice, 251 hectares of corn, and 166 hectares of cassava with damage exceeding 70%, and the remaining area with damage ranging from 30 to 70%.

Additionally, 257 hectares of fish ponds were flooded, resulting in over 70% damage; 650 meters of canals were eroded and washed away; the culvert on the Khe Thiềm bypass road and the embankment of the Rú Mồ pumping station in Nghĩa Hoàn commune were damaged; two spillways were eroded, including the Khe Đá dam in Nghĩa Phúc commune and the Quyết Tâm dam in Giai Xuân commune; and 5km of inter-district and inter-commune roads were damaged by landslides. The estimated total damage is over 30.5 billion VND.

In response to the situation, the Party Committee and government of Tan Ky district have directed local authorities to implement measures to ensure the safety of the people. For areas where rice has ripened but is flooded, people are urged to harvest quickly to minimize losses. Ferry services have been suspended, people are prohibited from collecting firewood in the river, warning signs have been posted on some sections of roads with deep flooding, and efforts are being made to overcome difficulties and stabilize people's lives as soon as possible.
